Origins of the Pattern

Flecktarn (from the German words Fleck meaning “spot” and Tarnung meaning “camouflage”) was developed by West Germany in the late 1970s and officially adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1990. The pattern uses small, overlapping spots arranged in clusters to create a “dithering” effect that blends exceptionally well in European woodland, temperate forests, and transitional environments.

Flecktarn has been used by German infantry, airborne units, armored troops, and special forces, and has influenced numerous camouflage designs worldwide. Its unique combination of micro‑patterns and organic shapes gives it a highly effective and instantly recognizable appearance.

This stencil pack is inspired by the structure and visual style of the original Flecktarn pattern, recreated as original artwork suitable for Cerakote and custom finishing applications.
